Something of a surprise late call-up by Croatia coach Slaven Bilic, this Israel-based defender has not been a part of the Euro 2012 qualifying story and sneaked in at the last as one of the back-up defenders.
The injury to influential Dejan Lovren left Bilic with something of a crisis at the heart of his defence and he readily admitted as much as he explained the reasons for his call-up of Buljat.
“We did everything possible to get Lovren back, but he didn’t have enough time to recover and this is why I have had to call-up Buljat,” says the outgoing Croatia boss. “I’m sure he will be keen to take his chance.”
This defender made his name in Hadjuk Split colours before being tempted by a lucrative offer to join Maccabi Haifa last year and his stock will rise yet again if he makes his mark at Euro 2012.
