Makos established himself as a regular member of the Greece side at the back end of the Euro 2012 qualifying push, with manager Fernando Santos warming to the talents of this defensive minded midfielder who has impressed at club level this season.
He made his name with Panionios before moving to the Greek capital in 2009 and he won his first major medal when he picked up the Greek Cup last year, but now comes his chance to build an even more lasting legacy by shining in the European Championship finals.
A full international since he made his debut against the Czech Republic last February, he was named in the initial 30-man squad for the 2010 World Cup finals, only to be left out when the final cut was made by coach Otto Rehhagel. Now that he has a major competition in his sights at last, he will be eager to make the most of his opportunity.
