This striker looked set to hit the big time when he secured a move from Bologna to Premier League side Chelsea in 2007.
With the west London club promising to promote their youth players to the first team squad as quickly as possible, Borini believed the move would benefit his career, yet the chances to shine in the star-studded Chelsea side did not come along as he might have expected.
He only made his senior international debut in February, but has shown enough in Serie A with Roma this season to suggest he will be an interesting option for coach Cesare Prandelli to call upon at Euro 2012.
