Capped by Poland at a variety of junior national team levels, Mierzejewski will be taking on his most enticing international challenge this summer as he prepares for Euro 2012 battle on home soil.
He received a rapturous welcome when he joined Turkish side Trabzonspor last year, as he was hoisted on the shoulders of jubilant supporters when he arrived at the airport and he has done a decent job at club level this year, positioning himself for a place in Poland’s line-up.
Poland’s Player of the Year during the 2010-11 season, Mierzejewski is a creator who can offer some attacking verve to his national team this summer, with the Champions League experience he gained in recent months good preparation for the kind of level he will be expected to reach during Euro 2012.
“You can see his confidence rising with every game he plays for the national team and hopefully he can reach a reach in time for Euro 2012,” says Poland coach Franciszek Smuda.
