Luuk de Jong

De Jong made the most of his fleeting Euro 2012 qualifying appearances as he came off the bench to snatch a vital goal in the 2-0 away win against Finland, with his first international goal coming amid the heat of a competitive qualifying game.

After starting out at De Graafschap, De Jong moved to FC Twente in 2009 and he has scored goal aplenty and the speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool or Newcastle in the English Premier League has hovered around him for some time now.

While he is unlikely to be a starter ahead of Holland’s ‘big two’ of Klaas Jan-Huntelaar and Robin van Persie at Euro 2012, De Jong may be the super-sub who can turn a game for Bert van Marwijk’s side if the going gets tough.

The son of two Dutch volleyball internationals, he has inherited the height and jumping that allowed his parents to enjoy a sporting career, which makes him a real handful in the air for defenders.
