Andreas Isaksson

A towering figure between the sticks for Sweden, this highly experienced performer shot to prominence with Trelleborgs and quickly became one of the brightest keeping prospects in European football, with Italian giants Juventus snapping him up amid plenty of competition in 1999.

The switch to Turin proved to be a step too far for the youthful Isaksson, who failed to make his mark in Serie A and was forced to return back to Sweden in search of more regular action, which was forthcoming with Djurgarden. Spells with French side Rennes and Manchester City in England preceded his move to PSV Eindhoven in 2008 and he has been a big success in the Dutch league.

Taking over from Magnus Hedman after his long-running stint as the Swedish national team’s No.1, Isaksson has nailed down a spot since Euro 2004 and also played in Euro 2008. With his sights set on 100 international appearances, he will move a step closer to that magnificent milestone by playing in his third European Championship finals this summer.
