Beto succeeded in his mission to snare himself a place in Portugal’s Euro 2012 squad after a move to Romanian football secured him the first team football he was craving.
Out of favour with FC Porto, this one-time Sporting Lisbon shot-stopper appeared to be losing his battle to hang onto a spot in the Portugal side as he was encouraged by national team officials to seek a fresh start. He has proved his worth in the Romanian league this season, even though his side just missed out on title success by two points.
“To be included in the Portugal squad for Euro 2012 proves that all the hard work I put in after moving to Romania was not for nothing,” Beto said. “I am here for the team and even though I am not the first pick for the coach, I am ready to play.”
