He may have only played in one of Spain’s Euro 2012 qualifiers, but Alba has appeared to be a certainty for the final 23-man squad for this tournament after an impressive season with Valencia helped him to make an impact at full international level.
An attacking or defensive option on the left side of the team, Alba impressed on his debut in the Euro 2012 qualifier against Scotland last October and he also caught the eye in the friendly win against Venezuela earlier this year, sparkling speculation that it may not be long before he is lured away from Valencia.
Alba upset his current employers when he suggested he would ‘like to test himself at a higher level’ a few months ago, with Barcelona among the clubs said to be tracking his progress and he certainly seems content to be surrounded by big name team-mates.
“It was amazing when I first joined up with this Spanish team because I looked around at all the great players and had to remind myself that I deserved to be here,” says Alba. “When you are surrounded by so much quality, there is never going to be an easy route to the team, so hard work is all that will do it for me.”
