France are lacking some proven playmaking options heading into Euro 2012, yet coach Laurent Blanc has an interesting candidate to fill that role in Martin.
Plying his trade with one of the lesser clubs in French football has not stopped this 24-year-old forcing his way into Les Bleus' squad on a regular basis and, while this diminutive performer may lack a little in the physical side of the game, he more than makes up for it with his cultured passing and energy.
While many French players progress through the ranks of the national team’s junior sides, Martin is something of a late comer to the set-up as he only played for the Under-21s before earning a call-up to the senior side last summer. He scored two goals on his full debut against Euro 2012 hosts Ukraine.
“I have to say this is a dream to be playing for France and the prospect of Euro 2012 is so thrilling for me,” he says. “I never believed this kind of opportunity would come my way.”
