After making his international debut in 2002, this central defender has been a rock solid member of the Russia side in the years since, yet his participation in Euro 2012 was in doubt after he broke a toe while training with his club side back in April. “It is the worst possible timing for me and I cannot imagine not being able to play at Euro 2012,” said Ignashevich as he contemplated a summer watching this tournament on television.
A UEFA Cup winner in 2005, he likes to shoot from distance and is also a threat when he moves forward to take part in set pieces. An unsung hero who rarely steals the spotlight, his importance to the Russian side should not be under-estimated.
