Russia boss Dick Advocaat pulled a few rabbits out of his hat when he finalised his Euro 2012 squad and Izmailov was one of the less predictable names to make his trimmed down selection.
A veteran of the World Cup finals of 2002 and Euro 2004, he appeared to have slipped off the radar of the international set-up when he went five years without playing in a Russian midfield line-up that has featured a settled selection of performers for much of the last decade.
