At home in a left-back slot or a central defensive berth, Wawrzyniak shot to prominence with Widzew Lodz before earning a move to Legia Warsaw in the summer of 2007.
He had become a full Polish international a year before that move to the capital city club and Wawrzyniak’s star appeared to be on the rise once more when Panathinakos handed him a chance to star in their team in 2009, but his stint in Greece quickly turned sour when he failed a doping test.
“When I made my miracle move to Panathinaikos, I was so determined to become a better player,” said Wawrzyniak, as he confessed to taking the performance enhancing substances known as fat burners. “I took a bad decision and paid the price, but it is in the past now.”
The case ended of his career in Greece and he was pleased to rejoin Legia and continue his career after serving a ban for his misdemeanour.
