Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is a major injury doubt ahead of Germany’s Euro 2012 semi-final with an ankle problem.

Schweinsteiger, 27, played poorly against Greece in the quarter-finals, having not trained for days ahead of the clash due to the injury.

"Honestly, I am worried about my ankle," Schweinsteiger told Welt am Sonntag, blaming the ankle complaint for his showing. "But the time has not come for me to take it easy. We hopefully have two more games, I will fight through it. After that, I will see to it that I finally get healthy again."

Without commenting too much on the injury itself, Schweinsteiger said that he would understand if head coach Joachim Low chooses to leave him out of the side to play against England or Italy.

He added: "If the national team coach decided that way, I wouldn't have a problem with that. Against Greece, I made some bad passes that would otherwise never occur.”

German captain Philipp Lahm, though, is not worried about Schweinsteiger's injury, believing that his Bayern colleague will be fit to take the field on Thursday.

Lahm said: “It’s true, having had to miss three training sessions makes things a bit unclear for him. We need fit players in the semi finals, we can’t have anyone who is missing three or four per cent. Having said that, I don’t worry much about Bastian Schweinsteiger’s state of health, he knows his body as well as anyone and I’m sure he’ll be on that pitch on Thursday evening.”
