Yohan Cabaye is “indispensable“ to France, according to coach Laurent Blanc.
Cabaye had a fine first season for Newcastle in the Premier League and his efforts cemented his place in the squad for Euro 2012. He was not an automatic starter, but an injury to Yann M’Vila opened the door and he seized his chance with impressive efforts in the draw with England and win over Ukraine.
He was rested for the defeat to Sweden on account of a muscle problem, but is now free of injury and looks certain to be restored to the side for the quarter-final with Spain in Donetsk.
"Cabaye is indispensable in terms of how he played in the first two games in the competition, absolutely,” Blanc said."We know players like Cabaye bring a lot to the team. You realise how much players like that bring when they are not actually there.
"He has such great technical ability which really helps the side, gives us a bit more assurance, because we can keep the ball and move it about.
"He has been an important player for a while now - both with his club and the national side."
