The Netherlands striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has revealed he is becoming frustrated with his role as a substitute and says he does not know what he has to do to become first choice.

Huntelaar, who plays for Schalke, scored 48 goals in all competitions this season but is being kept on the bench by Arsenal’s Robin van Persie. He again had to settle for being a substitute in the 2-0 friendly win over Slovakia.

“Angry is probably not the right word, but I have so many questions right now,” he told De Telegraaf. “I can't do any better than last season. I always train hard and I have a positive attitude.

“There's a chance that you become despondent if you still don't get a chance. I don't know what I have to do to become Oranje's first-choice striker, to be honest.”

He said he was “only looking at myself, and I want to play,” adding: “The annoying thing is that everybody's talking about me and Robin. The outside world seems to think it's either Van Persie or Huntelaar."

Bart van Marwijk’s side play their final warm-up friendly against Northern Ireland on Saturday before taking on Denmark, Germany and Portugal in Group B.
