Italy look set to get a boost ahead of their Euro 2012 campaign with the news that defender Giorgio Chiellini is set to recover from a muscle injury by the start of the tournament.

Chiellini, 27, strained his right thigh in Juventus’ final game of the Serie A season against Atalanta on Sunday and was given a timeframe of 20 days to get fit again.

The defender will miss Sunday’s Coppa Italia final against Napoli, but was included in coach Cesare Prandelli’s preliminary Azzurri squad for this summer’s tournament in Poland and Ukraine.

As a part of the Juventus side that claimed the Scudetto title unbeaten this season, Chiellini only missed four games and the club finished with the best defensive record in the country with 20 goals conceded in 38 games.

Italy begin their Euro 2012 campaign against world and European champions Spain on June 10 before taking on Group C rivals Croatia four days later and the Republic of Ireland on June 18.
