Crystal Palace set unwanted record in Roy Hodgson's first match

Roy Hodgson took charge of his first match as Crystal Palace manager on Saturday but saw his side struggle in front of goal again as they lost 1-0 to Southampton. Palace have now set a Premier League record for the longest run without a goal at the start of a season.

Christian Benteke missed a decent opportunity in the first half of their match with Saints, who took a 1-0 lead through Steven Davis. Mauricio Pellegrino's men held on in the second half to inflict a fifth successive league defeat on Palace.

The Eagles have failed to score in their opening five matches -- a record in the English top flight -- and passed the unwanted milestone without netting in the second half.

Hodgson's men now face trips to Manchester City and Manchester United before hosting Chelsea.
