Non-league Lincoln, Sutton advance while Christian Benteke rallies Palace

Non-league sides Lincoln City and Sutton United both advanced to the FA Cup fourth round after a pair of upsets in third-round replays on Tuesday night.

Lincoln, leaders of the fifth-tier National League, pulled off the biggest surprise as Nathan Arnold rounded Ipswich Town keeper Dean Gerken in stoppage time to secure a 1-0 win over the Championship side.

Their reward will be a home game against another second-division club, Brighton and Hove Albion.

"I am just so proud of the boys," said coach Danny Cowley. "We didn't want it to go to extra-time as we have an important league game on Friday, so to score with just a few moments left was perfect timing.

"I thought we competed well and over two games, we have gone toe-to-toe with a Championship team. We were brilliant tonight, absolutely brilliant. It means everything to me, it is what you dream of."

Meanwhile, fellow fifth-division club Sutton United won their replay at AFC Wimbledon 3-1.

The League One side led through Tom Elliott after 10 minutes but Paul Robinson was sent off five minutes later. Sutton finally made the advantage pay with Roarie Deacon's 75th-minute equaliser, and late goals from Maxime Biamou and Dan Fitchett sealed the win.

Sutton return home for the fourth round for a clash with Championship side Leeds United.

"My emotion is one of unadulterated joy," Sutton coach Paul Doswell said. "I'm so pleased for my chairman, our directors who are all volunteers, for the 1,000 fans here and for the players. They are a tight group and they needed to show that togetherness tonight."

Christian Benteke scored twice in the second half to help Crystal Palace escape a scare with a 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers.

James Henry had given Bolton three minutes after the break before Benteke found the net in the 68th and 77th minutes.

Palace are set to host Manchester City in the fourth round.

Sunderland endured another miserable night at Turf Moor as they were knocked out of the FA Cup following a 2-0 loss at Burnley.

The Clarets' fifth successive victory in east Lancashire was earned through Sam Vokes' first-half header and a second from substitute Andre Gray as they set up a home clash with Bristol City in the next round.

Burnley will host Bristol City next, after Jamie Paterson's breakaway goal earned the Robins a ticket to the fourth round with a 1-0 win at rain-drenched Fleetwood.

The deadlock was broken after 18 minutes when Gustav Engvall's through-ball was too good for Fleetwood, with Cian Bolger losing his man and allowing Paterson to take full advantage, making no mistake one-on-one with Alex Cairns.

Blackpool provided one more dramatic finish on the night as Bright Osayi-Samuel scored just before the final whistle blew in extra time to secure a 2-1 win at Barnsley.

Kelvin Mellor had given Blackpool a lead on the half-hour mark before Angus MacDonald equalised early in the second half, but Osayi-Samuel found the winner in the 120th minute.

Blackpool will travel to face Blackburn Rovers when the fourth round begins the weekend of Jan. 28.
