John Terry focused on playing, not England coaching role - sources

Chelsea captain John Terry has no immediate plans to link up with Gareth Southgate's England coaching staff as he plans to continue playing beyond next summer, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.

Terry, who turned 36 earlier this week, is out of contract at Chelsea at the end of the season and his future at Stamford Bridge has been the subject of speculation after losing his place in the first team in recent months.

Reports have suggested that new England boss Southgate is keen to enlist the help of former Three Lions stars, including Terry, to try to improve the fortunes of the national team.

Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole are among those to have been sounded out about working with the Football Association on a part-time basis to help mentor the players and it was also hoping to get Terry on board.

Sources close to Terry have told ESPN FC that he is taking his coaching badges when and where he can as he plans to move into management in the future, and that he is booked on a coaching course at St George's Park -- the FA's national football centre.

However, Terry is yet to consider any role with England as his focus is on helping Chelsea in their push for the Premier League title.

He is likely to have limited time to commit to any coaching role as he defender plans to continue to play on next season, whether with Chelsea or elsewhere.
