New England manager Sam Allardyce has said it is "far too early" to say whether Wayne Rooney will remain as the national team's captain.
Rooney skippered the side at Euro 2016 but struggled to impress, although he did score the opening goal in the 2-1 round-of-16 defeat to Iceland from the penalty spot.
The Manchester United striker has 115 caps to his name and was given the armband in 2014, taking over from Steven Gerrard after that year's World Cup in Brazil.
Asked if Rooney will remain as England captain, Allardyce said at St George's Park in his first news conference since his appointment: "No, that's far too early to make any predictions in that area.
"I'm going to leave that until I meet all the players and I get all the coaching staff together behind the scenes and plan for the internationals in September."
England's first 2018 World Cup qualifier is against Slovakia in Trnava on Sunday Sept. 4, although British media reported on Monday that a friendly against Croatia will be scheduled at Wembley for three days prior to that trip.

Former Sunderland boss Allardyce was appointed as Roy Hodgson's successor on Friday.
Allardyce also confirmed that Sammy Lee, who he worked with at Bolton Wanderers, will be "one of many" who will join the England backroom staff.
