Adama Ba's first-half goal earned Bastia a 1-0 victory over Bordeaux in Ligue 1.
Ba's effort three minutes before half-time gave the Corsican outfit a seventh win in 10 home games, as their mid-table rivals slipped to only their second away defeat of the campaign.
Bastia started brightly and Milos Krasic brought a good block out of defender Henrique in the 12th minute, before Ludovic Obraniak tested goalkeeper Jean-Louis Leca from 25 yards at the other end 25 minutes later.
In the 41st minute Obraniak produced another on target effort, this time from 35 yards, which Leca thwarted.
However, the hosts - without a win in five matches prior to this contest - made the decisive breakthrough a minute later.
Sambou Yatabare engineered a lively counter-attack, setting Florian Raspentino free down the right. He advanced and crossed perfectly for Ba to volley instinctively into the top corner of the Bordeaux net.
Bordeaux goalkeeper Cedric Carasso did well to tip Ba's powerful effort over the bar five minutes into the second half and 10 minutes later Raspentino brushed the woodwork.
The visitors' best chance of the second half came in the 63rd minute when Mariano crossed for Guillaume Hoarau to volley goalwards - but Leca tipped the ball away.
Raspentino had an opportunity to avert a nervy finish when he found himself one-on-one with Carasso after good work by Ryad Boudebouz - but the Bordeaux goalkeeper won the battle.
