Dagenham & Redbridge sprung a surprise by dumping League One Stevenage out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at the first hurdle courtesy of a fine 3-2 win.
First-half goals from Brian Woodall, Josh Scott and Michael Spillane's penalty did the trick for the Daggers as they claimed their first win of the season.
Mark Roberts equalised for the visitors and substitute Robin Shroot made things interesting with a late goal, but it was the hosts who claimed victory in the first-ever meeting between the two sides outside of non-league football.
Woodall gave John Still's side the perfect start with his first goal of the season after 12 minutes, glancing Dominic Green's corner past Boro `keeper Steve Arnold at his near post.
Skipper Roberts levelled matters with a simple tap-in 13 minutes later, but Scott poked home to restore the hosts' advantage soon after.
And 10 minutes before the break Roberts turned villain when he felled Spillane and the midfielder made no mistake from the spot.
Shroot came off the bench to give Stevenage hope of forcing penalties with 17 minutes remaining but the home side held firm for a battling win.
