Bordeaux passed up the opportunity to get back to winning ways after their fifth consecutive Ligue 1 draw against lowly Troyes.
Les Girondins have fallen behind the pace-setters in the league with their winless run stretched to six matches yet they had their chances tonight.
Gregory Sertic and Ludovic Sane both struck the post from distance in the first half, while Troyes goalkeeper Yohann Thuram-Ulien had to make several decent saves throughout to help his side hang on for a valuable point.
The visitors side are still six points adrift of safety at the beginning of the winter break but boss Jean-Marc Furlan will be pleased by their gritty defensive display.
They were on the back foot almost immediately with Thuram-Ulien thwarting Yoan Gouffran's 20-yard effort before Sertic's strike from well over 30 yards clipped the post before going wide.
It was a let off for Troyes, but they could not stop the early onslaught and Nicolas Maurice-Belay saw his low drive pushed out for a corner by Thuram-Ulien.
Troyes spurned a glorious chance to break the deadlock when Benjamin Nivet put through on-loan Lyon forward Mohamed Yattara, who, with only Cedric Carrasso to beat, could not beat the Bordeaux goalkeeper.
The hosts responded with Sane's rocket of an effort from 30 yards, which again brushed the post before going out of play.
Another long-range effort from Sertic produced a fine save from Thuram-Ulien, who then made a double stop from Gouffran's glancing touch to Jaroslav Plasil's free-kick before the goalkeeper then kept out Cheick Diabate's rebound.
The one-way traffic continued but Bordeaux could not find a way past the excellent Thuram-Ulien, whose reflex save denied Sane's header from Gouffran's cross.
