France failed to make the most of their chances as they played out a goalless draw against Uruguay at the Grande Stade du Havre tonight.
Les Bleus can count themselves slightly unlucky not to have won the game after twice hitting the post through Yanga M'Biwa and Karim Benzema.
Uruguay also went close through Sebastian Abreu but did not have enough penetration to win the match.
Karim Benzema had the first effort of the contest but his 35-yard effort went sailing over the crossbar.
The best chance of the first half came in the 14th minute courtesy of Mathieu Valbuena's outswinging corner. It was aimed towards the far post where it was met 12 yards out by M'Biwa, only for his shot to bounce off the post.
Another corner a minute later saw Benzema hit a left-footed effort over the bar.
France were beginning to gain a foothold in the game and it was Benzema again who almost opened the scoring when he met a Franck Ribery cross from the centre of the penalty area and only a good save from Fernando Muslera kept the scores level.
It took until the 42nd minute for Uruguay to produce anything noteworthy on goal. Diego Forlan picked up the ball 25 yards out but his shot went wide of the left post.
The second half began in a similar fashion with Benzema once more looking dangerous for France, but another of his efforts was saved comfortably by Muslera.
Uruguay came into the game more but only had a Walter Gargano effort from 35 yards to speak of.
France were further frustrated in the 60th minute. The ball sat up perfectly for Benzema, who struck a sweet volley from 18 yards and, just when it looked like Les Bleus would take the lead, his effort rebounded off the post.
Soon after the lively Benzema was replaced by Marvin Martin, the only thing missing from his performance was a goal.
Uruguay's best opportunity came in the 70th minute when Sebastian Abreu hit a shot from the right-hand side of the penalty area only to see Hugo Lloris produce a terrific save with his feet to maintain parity.
A minute later and Lugano once more went close for the visitors. A corner taken by Forlan fell to the midfielder in the penalty area but his shot was hit over the bar from 12 yards.
Both teams pressed for a winner in the closing stages but a series of corners for both sides came to nothing.
