Laurent Blanc's substitutes did the job for France as a goal from Loic Remy gave them a friendly victory over the United States in Paris.
The Marseille striker latched onto a pass from fellow substitute Marvin Martin to score the only goal of the game after 72 minutes.
There was a new look to French side, particularly the defence, where Mathieu Debuchy, Jeremy Mathieu and Laurent Koscielny all won their first caps.
But with the attacking talent of Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema also in the side, they were firm favourites and worthy of their victory.
For all the hosts' dominance it was the United States who threatened first when a shot from inside the box from Timothy Chandler brought a save, albeit a comfortable one, out of Hugo Lloris.
Benzema and Mathieu showed good intent down the left after 17 minutes and, though their play was a little too intricate, the ball broke to the Real Madrid man who fired over the bar from 25 yards.
Ribery was next to try his luck in the 27th minute, attempting a clever flick from Debuchy's cross, but he could not find the target.
Moments later Jeremy Menez had a chance from close range but his shot was blocked by Carlos Bocanegra.
In the 34th minute the visitors had a rare attack and Jozy Altidore shot from the edge of the box but his effort was wayward.
Menez was again in the action three minutes later when he fired against the bar from 20 yards.
The Americans started the second period in positive mood with Adil Rami firing wide from distance, before Maurice Edu and Kyle Beckerman each had shots comfortably saved by Lloris.
In the 55th minute France came agonisingly close to opening the story when, from Debuchy's corner, the ball fell to Benzema who headed against the bar.
Moments later France earned a free-kick on the edge of the box which Menez curled towards goal, but Howard saved.
The game was broken up by a raft of substitutions and one of the new men, Remy, brought a save out of Howard in the 69th minute with a strike from 18 yards which the Everton keeper punched away.
Three minutes later France were finally ahead and again it was Remy.
He latched on to a long pass from another substitute, Martin, and took the ball past Howard before dispatching the goal in the empty net.
America searched for an equaliser, causing enough problems for Koscielny to bring down Clint Dempsey on the edge of the area after 77 minutes, earning a booking for his troubles.
Dempsey fired the set-piece wide, however.
And after that the visitors offered little, the last chance falling to France substitute and debutant Olivier Giroud, who could not find the target to double their lead.
