Baird at the double for Raith
A John Baird double helped Raith Rovers see off Cowdenbeath 2-1 in the first round of the Ramsdens Cup.
There were few chances in the early stages as both sides had long-range efforts that missed the target.
Raith created the first clear opportunity when Allan Walker crossed to Brian Graham, but the striker headed wide from inside the area.
The home side took the lead with their first attack of the second half, when Baird nodded in Joe Hamill's cross into the bottom corner in the 51st minute.
The same combination added Raith's second goal 13 minutes from time, this time Baird sweeping a right-foot effort home after Hamill's pinpoint cross.
Cowdenbeath hit back with 10 minutes remaining when substitute defender Lewis Coult headed home from Dean Brett's right-wing cross.
But Raith held on comfortably to progress into the next round.
