Ligue 1 leaders Brest suffered a 3-1 defeat at Lille as Moussa Sow, Gervinho and Eden Hazard were on target for the home side.
Romain Poyet replied for Brest but it proved to be only a consolation goal for the visitors.
Pierre-Alain Frau had an early chance for Lille as he dribbled the ball past several markers but his shot skimmed the outside of the post.
Brest's response came through Mario Licka who worked his way past the Lille defence but his shot was deflected over the crossbar by goalkeeper Mickael Landreau.
Gervinho then saw his shot blocked and the ball rebounded to Frau whose follow-up was kept out by Steeve Elana.
Brest defender Oscar Ewolo failed to clear the ball properly and it fell to Frau but his low shot was stopped by Elana.
Frau and Hazard both combined to set up Emerson whose cross towards goal was intercepted by defender Johan Martial but he only ended up lobbing Elana and Sow followed up to score into an empty net.
Six players were involved in the move which put Lille further ahead five minutes into the second half and when Sow freed Gervinho he shot across Elana.
Yohan Cabaye could have added a third five minutes later but his shot from 20 yards was tipped over the bar by Elana.
Hazard then crossed to the near post but Frau sent his header into the side netting.
Brest made Lille pay for failing to take their chances when Licka's free-kick was volleyed into the top corner by Poyet.
Landreau started the move for Lille's third goal with a long kick which found Hazard and he dribbled past Paul Baysse before releasing a shot which Elena beat away.
But Hazard was able to collect the rebound before netting at the second attempt.
Lille nearly made it four when Sow released Emerson but his shot came back off the bar.
