Toronto FC blanks Sounders 2-0
TORONTO(AP) -- Captain Dwayne De Rosario had a goal and an assist
and O'Brian White also scored to give Toronto FC a 2-0 win over
the Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday.
In the 58th minute, De Rosario cut through the mud and the cold
and the rain in the second half, going through a pair of
defenders to send a game-winning shot and extend his remarkable
start to the Major League Soccer season.
De Rosario has scored five times over his first five games this
season. He also added an assist on White's goal in the 76th
minute.
The home team got the best chance of the opening half in the
10th minute with Seattle goalkeeper Kasey Keller deflecting
White's shot just wide of the goal.
Freddie Ljungberg was part of Seattle's first threat of the
second half, pivoting north of the box to send midfielder Nathan
Sturgis into point-blank range against Toronto's Stefan Frei,
who made the save to preserve the scoreless tie.
Frei made another strong stop on Seattle midfielder Brad Evans
in the 61st minute to maintain Toronto's 1-0 lead.
