T&T 2-2 Mexico: Baptiste holds El Tri
PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad -- Carlos Salcido scored off a corner kick in the 64th minute as Mexico came from behind twice to tie Trinidad and Tobago 2-2 Wednesday night in its final World Cup qualifier.
Kerry Baptiste put the Soca Warriors ahead in the 32nd minute when he converted a penalty kick awarded by Costan Rican referee Walter Enrique Quesada. Enrique Esqueda tie it for El Tri in the 57th off a pass from fellow substitute Cuauhtemoc Blanco.
Baptiste scored again on a header from close range four minutes later for a 2-1 lead.
Mexico (6-3-1), which clinched its fifth straight World Cup berth last weekend with a 4-1 win at home against El Salvador, finished second in North and Central America and the Caribbean, one point behind the United States (6-2-2).
Coming off its first World Cup appearance in 2006, T&T was last in the six-nation finals at 1-6-3.
