Australia 3-0 Qatar: Opening Socceroo stroll
MELBOURNE, Feb 6 (Reuters) - Three first half goals enabled Australia to begin their first World Cup qualifying campaign through Asia with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Qatar on Wednesday.
Striker Josh Kennedy and midfielders Tim Cahill and Mark
Bresciano all scored within the first 33 minutes to give the
Socceroos the best possible start to their 2010 qualifying
campaign.
Australia, who advanced to the 2006 World Cup finals in
Germany through Oceania, are in Group One with Asian champions
Iraq and China. Their next match is against China in Kunming on
March 26, while Qatar meet Iraq in Doha on the same day.
