Klaus Allofs will be the focus of attention when Wolfsburg host Werder Bremen tomorrow with the director of sport coming face to face with his recent past.
Allofs left Bremen after 13 years as their director of sport last week, breaking up a successful partnership with coach Thomas Schaaf to take up a role with the Wolves.
However, despite such a long history with Bremen, Allofs has already moved on and says he would have no qualms about celebrating victory over his former employers.
``I don't think it is in any way disrespectful when you show excitement for your own team, no matter what role you play,'' he said.
``Of course you shouldn't do so in any condescending way, but we want to win and, to do that, we need to score goals, and if we do get these goals, then of course I will be pleased.''
Allofs clearly risks feeling the wrath of some Bremen fans, although he expects a good reception from them in general.
``I don't expect anything negative to come from the Werder fans,'' he said.
``I know the Bremen fans well enough to recognise how disappointed they were when Diego and Naldo left, but they never forgot what those two players achieved for Werder.''
Diego and Naldo both now play for the Wolves and will be particularly motivated against their former club, but coach Lorenz-Gunther Kostner says he has already had a word with them to ensure they channel their motivation the right way.
``They had a good and successful history with Bremen and it is certainly a special game for both of them,'' he said.
``But they and the team must not try something special, and we have discussed it with them.
``For me, it would be special enough if we play the way we have been doing in recent weeks.''
Bremen coach Schaaf has played down the importance of his instant reunion with Allofs, preferring instead to concentrate on the job in hand.
Bremen currently have a three-point advantage over their opponents and Schaaf is keen for it at least to stay that way.
``We are totally focused on our duties and the team is concentrating hard,'' he said.
``Above all, it is about Wolfsburg against Werder Bremen.''
