Evian Thonon Gaillard v St Etienne: Preview

Former European Footballer of the Year Jean-Pierre Papin has paid a glowing tribute to St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ahead of the side's visit to Evian tomorrow night.

Eight goals in 12 games from the Gabon international have helped St Etienne to fourth place in Ligue 1, only two points behind leaders Paris St Germain.

``He's a boy who has made a huge amount of progress in the last few years,'' Papin said on the league website.

``He had an excellent season last year and has made a very promising start this time around. He's got real pace - there aren't many players who can run as fast as Aubameyang.

``Now he is managing to combine pace and good finishing and that's very positive. He's not only scoring a lot of goals, but he is setting them up too.

``He is slowly but surely becoming a complete player. He's doing good things already, but I think he'll go on to do great things.''

The 23-year-old is second to PSG's man-of-the-moment Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the division's scoring list and when the sides met in the capital two weeks ago it was Evian who came out on top 2-1, with Aubameyang hitting the winner.

They are on an unbeaten run of nine games in league and cup and now face an Evian team who climbed out the relegation zone last weekend with a 2-1 win at Reims, the goals coming from Kevin Berigaud and Youssef Adnane.
