Sochaux v St Etienne: Preview

Mathieu Bodmer hopes his loan move to St Etienne can be good for both him and the club.

Les Verts were top of the Ligue 1 table towards the end of November - but a run of just three points from six games dented their title hopes.

Despite recording successive wins since, Christophe Galtier's men are currently 11 points off the pace in seventh place.

Bodmer yesterday joined on loan from Paris St Germain for the rest of the season, following Yohan Mollo and Andreas Laudrup to the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

The midfielder told St Etienne's official website: ``It's been a while since I watched the team - but I like the club and its philosophy of play...the movement.

``The club has a history, passionate fans - and their ambitions match mine. It is a real pleasure to join.

``St Etienne are in the Coupe de la Ligue final, still in the Coupe de France and the race for the championship. The goals are high and I hope to help the team to achieve them.

``I already know Christophe Galtier and several players. It will be up to me to blend in.''

Chief executive Roland Romeyer added: ``We are the only Ligue 1 club still competing in all national competitions.

``We have a lot of matches coming up so Mathieu reinforces us with his experience and talent.''

``Given the compensation system we put in place to ensure the financial sustainability of the club, PSG agreed to take over a large part of the player's salary. For that I thank (PSG president) Nasser Al-Khelaifi.''

Tomorrow's opponents at the Stade Auguste Bonal will be seeking a win which will give them a double, following a 1-0 away win earlier in the campaign.

However, relegation-threatened Sochaux will be without striker Giovanni Sio - the deadline day arrival from Wolfsburg is not available due to suspension.
