Greece go incredibly close as they get a free header from the corner, but it just lacks the direction. Russia are in trouble if they don't sort themselves out.

Oh dear. Pavlyuchenko seems to be suffering the same affliction as his team-mates: he tries a shot from distance, which goes hopelessly wide.

Greece are still showing attacking intent, despite the fact a 1-0 win is certain to take them through.

Anyukov sends in a deep cross that's turned back for Shirokov, who swings his left boot at the ball only to see it fly over the bar. Russia need to find their shooting boots.

Samaras races towards goal once again but his low shot from distance was ill advised and wide of the mark.

Samaras makes a lung-busting run for goal, but he ends up in pain from an Anyukov tackle as the move breaks down.

Gekas attempts to control a Samaras cross in the area but is marshalled well by the Russian defence.

No real surprise that Russia made the change. Kerzakhov, though an integral part of the team, just looks shorn of confidence at the moment and Pavlyuchenko does have the quality to make a difference.

Pavlyuchenko came on for Kerzakhov at the half-time break.

The players are back out on the field for the second half.

However, that is only while the Poland-Czech Republic game remains 0-0. If the Czechs or Poland were to win, they would go through alongside Greece.

As things stand, then, Russia are still going through as group winners while Greece will finish second.

That's more like it. The short corner goes to Zhirkov, whose left-footed drive is very close indeed.

Glushakov gets a shot off on the edge of the area, and it's taken a deflection. Corner kick.

While Dzagoez was claiming to have been held back, incidentally, Kerzakhov was completely miskicking a shot.

Kerzakhov looks to curls a ball into the centre but it's blocked. From the resulting throw-in, Arshavin tries a cross, but it's blocked. It eventually comes into the area, where Dzagoev seems to take a tumble but there's no significant appeal.

Shirokov, having taken his tumble, takes a long-range shot that was disappointing to say the least.

Shirokov goes down in the area, and there are appeals for a penalty, but they always looked a little optimistic.

Papadopoulos sweeps up a rather loose through ball. The quality of the game is deteriorating, it seems.

Torosidis sends a decent inswinging cross into the area, but Berezutski stands tall and heads clear.

Glushakov attempts a long-range effort, which goes miles over the bar. We're still awaiting something a bit better from the Russians.

Dzagoev finds Arshavin, who plays a precise ball towards Kerzakhov in front of goal, but Greece get it away for a corner.

Karagounis lobs the ball towards Sapingidis in the area, but the latter is punished for a push in the back of the defender.

Anyukov, out on the right wing, plays a pass to Shirkov, but the return ball - which would have seen him free in a dangerous position - is overhit. The game's just lacking that little bit of quality at the moment.

Dick Advocaat insists Russia will not consider playing for a draw against Greece

Yokhin continues: "The players threatened not to go to the World Cup if he remained, and most of them were true to their word, including Shalimov, Dobrovolsky, Kanchelskis, Kulkov, Kolyvanov and Kiryakov. Almost all of them regret their behaviour very, very much. It is even thought to be the major cause of Sadyrin's death in 2001."

In 1994, though, things were very different. Russia blogger Michael Yokhin explains: "The biggest crisis for Russia started when they lost in Greece in the 1994 World Cup qualifiers. There was a huge rift, with federation president blasting the players, and it resulted in star players signing a letter that demanded the sacking of coach Pavel Sadyrin."

Russia have beaten Greece in the last two European Championships. They won 2-1 in the final group game of Euro 2004, when Greece won the tournament, and 1-0 at Euro 2008, when Greece failed to register a point.

There is some significant team news ahead of the game as 34-year-old Zenit midfielder Konstantin Zyryanov, a favourite of Russia coach Dick Advocaat, is to miss out through illness. Lokomotiv Moscow?s Denis Glushakov, a reported Zenit target, is set to replace him.

Greece blogger Chris Paraskevas, meanwhile, is not exactly overflowing with optimism but is praying for another miracle - read that one here.

Russia have said they will be going out for the win, and blogger Michael Yokhin has detailed here how he thinks they should do it.

Realistically, the importance of this match is in determining whether Russia progress in first or second place. A win would assure them of top spot, and avoid a likely meeting with Germany in the next round.
