Denmark to play Germany to mark Euro 1992 anniversary

Germany will play Denmark in June 2017 in a match marking the 25th anniversary of the Scandinavian country's historic 1992 European Championship triumph.

To celebrate their famous 2-0 victory over Germany, which came after Denmark had been invited to the tournament as the result of Yugoslavia's expulsion, the Danish FA requested the friendly take place.

Germany accepted the invitation and a game will be played on June 6, 2017, in Copenhagen.

"It will be a fantastic occasion to play against Denmark, 25 years after we lost the European Championship final in 1992," Germany general manager Oliver Bierhoff said.

Denmark head coach Age Hareide said he is looking forward to playing "the best team in the world."

He added: "To be able to play against the world champions is not only an outstanding opportunity for our players to continue their development, but it will also be a great spectacle for the fans."

Four days after the Denmark match, Germany host San Marino in a World Cup qualifier and then travel to the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia, where the 2014 World Cup winners are set to field an experimental team after already dropping hints that their star players will be rested.
