Alan Pardew: Crystal Palace determined to end bad run vs. Saints

Under-pressure Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew summoned his players to Selhurst Park for extra training on Friday in an attempt to solve the "crisis" of their poor form.

The Eagles host Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday, when a seventh straight defeat could cost Pardew his job.

But the manager said he could sense a "determination" in his players to end that run.

He met club chairman Steve Parish earlier this week, but asked whether he had been told he needs a win against the Saints to keep his job, he said: "No, but I'm a realist.

"I understand the situation with the Premier League. I have to make sure the next result is a positive one for us. I have to get results."

Pardew said he was "proud" of being Palace manager and said: "I understand the feelings of our fans. For them, I want to get a result on Saturday.

"I don't look for reassurances going forward. The chairman and the board here have been fantastically supportive.

"This is a crisis, a kind of mini crisis, and we have to get past this period."

Pardew has numerous injury problems ahead of the crucial game, with striker Connor Wickham likely to be out for the rest of the season after having surgery on an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
