Matsuda collapses at training

Former Japan national team defender Naoki Matsuda collapsed at training on Tuesday after suffering a cardiopulmonary arrest.

Matsuda, 34, was taken to hospital unconscious and has been on an artificial cardiopulmonary unit, Matsumoto Yamaga Football Club team officials have confirmed.

Club president Hiroshi Otsuki says the defender's condition is "extremely severe". Matsuda collapsed after finishing a 15-minute warmup run during training.
