CONCACAF Gold Cup: US start brightly

The USA kicked off their CONCACAF Gold Cup in style with a 2-0 defeat over fellow North Americans, Canada, at Detroit's Ford Field.

Jozy Altidore got the US off to a flying start on 15 minutes when he met Landon Donovan's cross, the ball only just going over the line after sneaking beyond Lars Hirschfield's grasp.

Canada improved in the second stanza but the USA held up well and added a second when Fulham forward Clint Dempsey steered home Altidore's pass.
