Manchester City are the moneyed club who are keen to dispel the nouveau riche's normal assumption that the past is irrelevant. Theirs is a team who, in a classy tribute to past heroes, took to the field in a 1960s red-and-black kit, commemorating their last FA Cup victors and, in particular, their match-winner, the gravely ill Neil Young.
