Nacional confirmed as Uruguayan title winners

Nacional beat Defensor Sporting 2-1 on Wednesday to clinch the 2008-09 Uruguayan league championship.

Nacional, who lifted their 42nd league title, had also won the first leg of the final by the same score on Sunday. Defensor needed a victory on Wednesday to take the final into a playoff.

Mauricio Victorino headed Nacional in front in the 25th minute but Alvaro Navarro equalised on the hour after two saves by Nacional players on the line.
