Rapids obtain Gomez's rights from D.C. United

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. -- The Colorado Rapids signed Argentine midfielder Christian Gomez on Friday after acquiring his rights from D.C. United.

Gomez signed a two-year deal worth about $400,000 per season. The team holds an option for a third year. The Rapids gave up a first-round pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft and future considerations to obtain Gomez's rights.

"To say it's exciting is an understatement," Rapids coach Fernando Clavijo said. "We chomped at the opportunity."
