Trouble flares at the Maracana stadium

RIO DE JANEIRO, March 19 (Reuters) - Riot police used pepper spray against brawling players after the Vasco da Gama-Flamengo derby ended in a pitch battle at the Maracana stadium on Sunday.

Television pictures also showed a policeman with his arm around a player's neck during the fight which followed Vasco's 2-1 win in the Carioca championship match.

Reporters and photographers who went on to the field to film the incident were also seen wiping pepper spray from their eyes.
