Thompson lands Cambridge job

Cambridge have appointed Steve Thompson as their new manager. Following the sacking of Herve Renard, Thompson has been brought in to try and save the League Two strugglers from relegation.

Thompson, 49, has worked in managerial and coaching capacities at numerous clubs including Newcastle, Lincoln, Doncaster, Southend, Notts County and Sheffield United.

Us chairman Gary Harwood said over 40 applications were received, but Thompson was their choice.
