UK promotes grass-roots game in Iraq

LONDON, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Britain will encourage grass-roots soccer in Iraq in a joint initiative with the English and Iraqi football associations.

British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, launching the 'Football United' plan on Wednesday, said training courses and local tournaments would be staged for young Iraqis.

'Football is by far the most popular sport in Iraq,' Straw said in a statement.
