Defender to have surgery on hamstring

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San Jose Earthquakes defender Eddie Robinson will undergo surgery on Thursday to repair the ruptured tendon of his left hamstring muscle.

Robinson is expected to miss the remainder of the 2004 Major League Soccer season.
