Japan coach Zico leads charmed life

TOKYO, April 1 (Reuters) - Japan coach Zico will argue statistics do not lie after two wins in two matches in the Asian 2006 World Cup qualifiers.

But statistics do little to mask the fact that only a late winner from substitute Toshiya Fujita in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over Singapore saved the Brazilian from another media roasting.

Japan had scraped a 1-0 home win over Oman in their opening Group Three match last month, prompting a public protest calling for Zico's dismissal.
