Nowak replaces Hudson on sidelines

WASHINGTON -- Freddy Adu and D.C. United will be coached Peter Nowak, captain of the Chicago Fire's 1998 MLS championship team.

Nowak, hired Wednesday, replaces Ray Hudson, whose contract was not renewed after last season.

The 39-year-old Nowak had 26 goals and 48 assists in five seasons with the Fire and led the team to one MLS title and U.S. Open Cup titles in 2000 and '01.
