Americans face ex-U.S. coach Sampson

MIAMI -- The United States will see a familiar face in the CONCACAF Gold Cup consolation game.

The Americans will play fellow semifinal loser Costa Rica, which is coached by Steve Sampson. He was the U.S. coach at the 1998 World Cup, when the team lost in the first round.

``Right now he is with Costa Rica, and that makes him our opponent,'' midfielder Earnie Stewart said. ``Steve has done great things for us in the past. He is just on the other side now.''
