Turf going for 10 cents per square foot

SEATTLE -- Laying 87,000 square feet of sod for the Manchester United-Glasgow Celtic exhibition soccer match on Tuesday cost $100,000.

Now the mixture of rye and Bermuda grasses is being sold for 10 cents a square foot, or $8,700.

``Our goal is not to take it to a landfill. It's very good turf,'' said Greg Dunn, a sales manager with West Coast Turf, which brought the sod from a farm outside Modesto, Calif.
