Blaine may be selected as venue

BLAINE, Minn. -- Blaine is included in a list of cities recommended by U.S. Soccer to host a Women's World Cup preliminary-round soccer game when the tournament is played this fall.

U.S. Soccer made its recommendations to FIFA, soccer's governing body, on Tuesday in a teleconference call.

``It is an honor to be considered, but by no means is this a confirmation that we are hosting games,'' said Minnesota Thunder general manager Jim Froslid, a member of the local organizing committee.
